The 2011 East of Scotland Girls Championship got underway at Kirkcaldy G.C this afternoon with exciting and closely fought quarter final matches .
The first match saw the top seed Gabrielle Macdonald beat Alexis Hutton by 5 and 4. Both girls are in their last year as juniors and neither have taken the championship title before however Alexis who has always been a great supporter of the East Girls unfortunately did not bring her 'A' game with her today.
In the second match Alison Goodwin , last years beaten finalist, won herself a place in the semi-finals by beating Shannen McGuire, winner of the Summer Meeting, in a very close match at the 19th hole.
The third match saw fellow club mates Hannah Scott and Kate McIntosh of Broomieknowe battle it out for a chance of a place in the semis. Hannah dominated the match throughout however Kate fought back on the last few holes to manage to take the match to the 19th where she won the hole and the match.
In the final match, promising young player Sophie Maguire played some great golf to beat No 2 seed Lesley Atkins of Gullane by 2 holes.

Sophie Maguire (St Regulus ) beat Lesley Atkins (Gullane ) by 2 holes.
Semi-finals shall be played tomorrow morning , Tuesday 5th July teeing off from 9.40 am with the Final being played in the afternoon teeing off around 2.30pm. Spectators and supporters would be most welcome. Prize-giving shall follow .
